Of course, the chicken rice is one of the best i have ever tasted.
RM15 per plate at Genting (First World Plaza), is considered a reasonable price lah.

Well, kinda forgot to take the picture of the chicken rice, will do it next time!

Can't recall when was the last time I've been to Happy Valley.
Everything changed, new looks.
It definately looks more..hmm...'Decorative', that's the word.

New rooftings & new furnitures.
Nicer than before, sure the owner pump in some amount of fund into that.

The only thing I don't like is that -their BBQ place, just right in front of the main entrance. Every customer going through the entrance will sure give a touch on their oily smokes from the BBQ, leaving you with moisturising (oily in fact) faces & clothes.

Hope they move it to the side one day.

I've got only these two 'KAM' (柑，Mandarin Orange) from my company before my CNY breaks.

I mean 'ONLY' means nothing extra, only KAM!

Hope you've already got something extra from your employer, nothing similar to my case.

At 12.00am, celebration started....

On the 2nd day of CNY, lion dance performance.

On the 6th day of CNY, we went to 青山岩 temple. PACKED!

People are enjoying the noodle provided by the temple.

How was your holiday? Mine was just OK, not too bad.

I Think This is A New Toy @ Hock Lee Center, Kuching

Last Sunday, I went to Hock Lee Center for some CNY shopping.
Empty handed back home, but I've discovered something 'NEW'. Wahaha..
A "REMODE" Control Toy Car!!!...In what "MODE", I'm not so sure about it.

Look at this close up picture. Really have to ask the shop assistant from what mode to what mode this toy can transform.

Nope, it doesn't really attract me to go there, Hills Shopping Mall @ Pullman Hotel, Kuching.

Beside this red evil, there is basically quite clean & clear (coz' not much stores start operating business), only 'a few'.

By the way, Pullman Hotel is the new landmark in Kuching, Sarawak.

Borneo Station Cafe

Borneo Station - a place where you can dine in with all the decent & quality food for a meal, not those junk food I mean. Newly operated quietly with a comfortable interior decoration.
Dined in last Monday evening with my family. There are 2 PCs in place for you to surf the net, and of coz' free wifi provided.

Corn soup with crab meat. Nice, taste like good old home cook recipe.

We've also ordered small-kailan (vege), union chicken and sweet & sour fish.

Overall, I would like to recommend this restaurant to you. If there is a day that you don't feel like cooking at home, that is the place for you. Price wise, it is considered cheap! My bill came below RM35.00 (can't remember the exact price) for the dishes above and including drinks.

Borneo station is located at the junction of Jalan Mendu & Jalan Simpang Tiga.

Busy City : Kuching

A very busy Kuching in July & Aug 09.
Heaps of event happening in Kuching, first is the opening of Sarawak new DUN building, then come all the Raja-raja in Malaysia to Kuching for meeting (reunion?), follows by the well known annual Kuching Festival.

These photos was taken during the DUN opening night, across the river near Sarawak Plaza.
Crowded with people watching all the shiny decorated boats in the river.
The new DUN building is the one just below the signboard (umbrella in shape).

Can you see it? The new DUN....If you still don't know how much it cost, google it and the figure sure surprise you!

This is Merdeka Palace Hotel, located at the heart of Kuching City, just next to the 'Padang Merdeka'. Raja Perlis was staying there during his trip to Kuching.

As expected when he was about to go out for a drink or something, MANY officers getting ready for traffic clearance, people lined up in 2 rows at the hotel lobby & hotel's lifts (2 of them) reserved for him.

Even ambulance is on standby at the roadside near the hotel.

I'm glad that finally all the Raja-raja are back to their palaces. No more alarming noises on the road indicating me to give way to the VVVIPs. That's Kuching in July 09.

Well, Kuching festival has just started last weekend. Have fun & eat more!

Buffet Dinner @ Cafe Majestic Hotel

Last month, I had a chance to dine in at Cafe Majestic, Riverside Majestic Hotel Kuching.
It was a buffet dinner, menu of the day is "Japanese BBQ Buffet".

It was packed! Maybe it was because of Saturday evening, everybody just want to treat themselves well.

Highlights of the day!

Imagine how much we've ate that night!

With a total of 4 paxs on a table, our bills came at RM299.80
Alright, some quality food & quality environment with a quality bill. :)

FULL HOUSE. Yeah~

Considering mid-high billing standard (for Kuching), as these priced around RM48, for 2 pax.
Not bad for the service, as provided by well trained staff.
Overall, nothing to shout about.
And SCR is moving in to tHe Spring to share that piece of pie also, quite a competition for TCRS, I must say.

Note : Their butter chicken is back.

BBQ Sweet Corn

According to wiki, Sweet Corn, also called indian corn is a variety of maize with a high sugar content.
This one below was bought at Stutong Commercial Center, in front of CHOICE Daily Super Mall, a guy with a open-bonnet vehicle at the parking alot, hanging a signboard saying "AMERICAN SWEET CORN".

1. Peel off the covering leaves/skin of the corn
2. Apply some butter onto the corn directly
3. BBQ the corn for about 10minits (vary depends on the heat)
4. Done

Here we are, the brand new 1Borneo Shopping Complex, the biggest shopping mall in Borneo.
Located at about 15mins drive from KK city.

On our arrival, we saw a group of performer monks were getting themselves ready at the centre hall for some demonstration. I've captured one of them, just see the clip below.

We went for lunch at the restaurant, JAWS Seafood Restaurant, located on the Ground Floor of 1Borneo.

This is the menu.

Seafood Fried Rice, with prawns, crabs, mussels and some meat for RM10.00

This is 'Assam' Mee Hun (rice noodle)...big prawns!

Alot of shops!

There is a bowling alley in the complex also...30 lanes in total.

Pool tables can be found at the bowling alley.

And on the same floor, you can find this 'cave'.
Well, it is not a cave lah....it is called "Borneo Rainforest'

So, here what you will see inside the cave.
All species are keep in glass.

One of my family members, lizard family.

Near relative, Triangle Headed Iguana.

We took the free shuttle bus back to city, which is provided by the Mall.
The only thing you have to do is get your ticket 30mins before the bus depart.

The bus brings you to & from 1Borneo, about 20mins per way.
Well, a nice air-conditioned & FREE bus service. 5/5 for the bus.
Overall, the 1Borneo having a similar layout as Midvalley in KL, very similar.
4 hotels surrounding the 1Borneo and a few apartments are on the way up.

That ended my KK trip. Wonderful exploration to the natural & new infra.
PS: Game center can be found there too! I didn't take any photo of them.

Mount KK & Hot Spring @ Kota Kinabalu - Sabah Trip 3

On the 4th day, we hired a 'van sapu' for a day trip to the Mountain & Hot Spring.
We had 10 persons as a group, and the van+ the driver cost us RM600 in total.

We stopped by half way, for a rest/washroom/food& drink/ and some photo taking.
Here is the wide angle view of the Mount KK which I have taken it at the stop.

Disappointingly luck was not so good, we couldn't see the whole mountain as the peak was covered by the cloud.

Here, we reached the Kinabalu Park, the base of the mountain.
We had a good walk-around at the park. Abit cold, feeling like in a aircon room.

If you see this board next time you go there, you are just 4km away from the mountain peak.

Another 1hr+ drive from the Kinabalu Park to the Hot Spring.

These pools with roof are for you to enjoy the warm water from the Hot Spring.

This is where the warm water come from.

We then walked for another 15-20 mins into the area, there is a waterfall. Can't remember the name of the waterfall.

Just nice to cool your feet down abit.

Around 4pm, the driver took us to a small town for lunch before we headed back to the city.
I took this view on the way back. The cloud is in a circular shape covering the peak.

Everyone was tired and napped in the van.

Manukan Island @ Kota Kinabalu - Sabah Trip 2

3rd day morning after having breakfast, we headed to the Jetty....on the way to MANUKAN Island for a day trip.

From the Jetty, you can see another new shopping complex coming up - SURIA KK.
It is scheduled to complete in Year 2010. According to the locals, it is slightly smaller than 1Borneo.

All passengers onboard, ready to go. Yeah!

Arrived Manukan Island.
Beautiful beach, nice weather.

Packed with visitors, it was a Sunday!

Piu~Wi~ a "CABO" lying on the beach, did you see it?
Look closer.

Here it is..."CABO", that's what I mean.

Hey you. You're shooting others, I'm shooting you.

Cystal clear water which you can see the fish.

We had about 5-6hrs on the Island, did some seaside diving & lunch at the beach. Back to KK mainland around 5pm.

The boat we hired was RM204 per boat (12 persons max.), and some TAX @ RM6 per pax.
Some advise to you, bring your own food over to the Island if you plan to stay over the lunch. Those food on the Island are not cheap, luckily we brought some sandwich & drink.

KK City @ Kota Kinabalu - Sabah Trip

Touched down at KK airport, 12.15am mid night!!! Thanks to AirAsia.com
Who so called 're-scheduled' my booking from afternoon flight to 10.30pm (email & sms me to inform 2 weeks before flight. Well, it's not your fault...AirAsia.com, really...)
Well, a day wasted. Tired...went checked in directly to the hotel for a rest.

Next morning, got this KK info booklet from the Hotel counter.
Something is not right on this page, did you notice it?
6th row, "introduse"???!!!

Ya, you do have a new outlook with "introduse" in one of your pages.

I have to say, it's handy as it has KK city map attached at the back.

So, we headed on to the seaside (waterfront) in the morning after a light breakfast. and then a good walkabout around the town.

Relaxing with a few bottles that night.

Big umbrella, live band, ang moS.... & many many bottles.

Even the Sugar Bun there looks different. Much better.

Seafood @ Kota Kinabalu - Sabah Trip 1

This is the restaurant we dined in for some seafood.
Nothing to shout about the dishes we ordered. Thinking on the other side, we felt we were somehow 'conned' by them. 1st dishes intro by the Boss was 'Hot & Cold Dishes' with 5 types of food, that cost us RM120.00 !!! We've ordered total of 3 dishes plus 5 coconut drinks, Bill = RM180++....sharp knife!

Well, interesting things are where the opened-air area, where all the live seafood are.

BIG lobster !

They put those prawn in plastic bottle. ~ 'Lai-Liu-Ha', that's the name in Cantonese.

These shells are big too...about the size of a tennis ball.

Buffet Dinner @ The Eatery - 'Four Points Hotel Again!

My second visit in a month!
This time, I went on Saturday evening. Too bad they don't have oyster that evening.
Tempura prawn, mussels, some beef slices and some satay will do.

Instead, they substitute the oysters with scallops.
Not bad too.

Alot of fish... Japanese cuisine.

There, there. All the delicious food is all there.

And there also. The Chef just come to refill those plates, grab those fresh ones.

1st advice for buffet meal, start slowly.

Some salad for 'warming up'.

Then, some random picks.

Steak with mushroom sauce, deep fried prawn, roasted chicken & deep fried fish fillet.

Here comes the REAL food.

Oyster with lemon, salmon fish & prawn salad. That's what i call DELICIOUS!

I think I had a few rounds of these.

They do provide free soft drink for those who dine in for the buffet, no need for me to say why they want to give soft drink lah, I think most of you know the reason/tactic!

Of course, there is alot of other food available which I didn't have chance to take the pics.

Noodles, satay, BBQ chicken & duck rice, dim-sum, sushi and Desserts like cakes, ice-kacang, sweets, kueh-mueh, fruits and alot more on the tables...eat all u can!

The biggest, brightest shining Moon in 52 years, on 09 Feb 2009.
The Moon came closer to Earth during its full phase than at any other time in 2009.
The Moon does not orbit Earth in a perfect circle. Instead, it follows an elliptical path that brings it 50,000 kilometres closer to our planet on one side of its orbit (called perigee) than the other (apogee). The Moon reached perigee tonight, coming within 357,500 kilometres of Earth.
It about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than typical full Moons.

Bombastic Cafe is located at Jalan Padungan, Kuching. Just opposite the Firestation, and is at the same row as RHB Bank.

This is the good old Fish-and-Chips.
A bit oily on the fish, to me.

KL Jan 2009 Trip - Part 2: PETROSAINS KLCC SURIA

I've visited the PETROSAINS center @ KLCC Suria during my trip to KL last month.
I find something new, something knowledgable & also something weird about the center.

I am wondering why these happened to be inside the PETROSAINS centre. Anything to do with Science?

At First the officer persuaded me to lie on a wooden bed with alot of holes, I've no idea what's that. Then, he asked me: " Can u feel anything?" I said yes. He then asked me to come down and have a look....that's what I saw, millions of nails!

I think this is a off shore petrolium control center. Fake one.

You've got balls?...Here has alot!

Overall, I think it's still worth visiting as the entrance fee is only RM12.00 per head.
But if it was more than RM20.00, I would recommend you to go other places.

"Shi-Lin" Taiwanese Food Store

I think the Taiwanese food store I went is at 3 level in Berjaya Time Square.
It's called "Shi-Lin" in Mandarin.

This their recommended "Oh-Ah-Mee-Suai" - Oyster Noodle
Kinda light taste to me. I've forgotten the price, hmm..RM6.00 ?

And this is another their famous special chicken chop rice with some 'toufu' at the side.
This is GOOD, I must say. RM10.00

During lunch time, there was a guy showing off his '2-string' in the middle. Honestly, he is good.

After lunch, went out to get some fresh air and took the wide view photo.

Then, we headed to 1Utama Mall.
We decided to ride on a taxi.
1st Guy - RM60 - Rejected!
2nd Guy - RM50 - Rejected!
2nd Guy 2nd offer - RM45 (and he begged at us: "Come on boss, susah cari makan lah...") Well, I am a good guy...just hopped in.

I must recommend this one, it is worth the money. LAMB SHANK @ WESTWOOD.
The size of this LAMB SHANK is in KING SIZE (the biggest I have eaten in Kuching area) and the best thing is only at RM22.00
The one I've ordered is with mushroom sauce, it comes with wedges, fried egg and some salad dressing.

WESTWOOD is located opposite Chong Lin Park and is along the same road as "Ling Hua San" Temple.

Zhong Yuan Kitchen ~ Tested

Just tried out the "Zhong Yuan Kitchen" last night, at Premier 101 Commercial Centre.
Obviously by the name, not hard to notice it is a Chinese restaurant.

Here is the menu front page.

2nd page looks very promising, with the words "Customers 1st" in mandarin.

The outlook of the restaurant, the theme deco is X'Mas season. Even the waiters & waitresses are wearing Santa's hat to serve us.

Guess what is this for?

Da..da..Rice container..to keep the rice warm enough for the night.

The "small Kai-lan". RM10.
To me, it was a bit salty. OK lah if mix with rice.

I think this is called Spicy Four Season Bean...or something. RM10.
We 'ta-pao' this one back during 'half-time'. Taste, so-so.

This one is Honey Sauce Chicken, very nice. RM13.
Recommended!

The Seafood Corn Soup for 2, but I think this bowl is big enough for 5~6 pax . RM15.
Quite nice, but we were too full to finish it.
We 'ta-pao' this one also.

Total Bill including 2 bowl of rice + 2 drinks: RM55.50

C 121 : New Cafe at Stutong

C121 : A new definition of "Standard" benchmarking for Cafe in Kuching. The newly opened cafe is located at Setia Raja Commercial shoplots (next to Stutong Market). It consist of 3 shoplots at the ground floor which accommodates more than 50 tables. According to a friend, the cafe is operating 24 hrs a day non-stop.

C121 cafe operates in a "stall" style of business. Variety of food from individual stalls to choose from, range from Chicken Rice, Dim Sum, Kueh Chap, Taiwanese Cuisine to Penang Style food and more at reasonable & acceptable prices.

As for environmental-wise, alot of fans in place and the seat spacing between tables are wide enough that you won't feel stuffy or hot.

Can't resist to go " Pizza & More " to try out their western food Friday night.

Chicken Chop with brown sauce- Juicy meat, nice sauce. Some chips at the side would make it perfect.
Overall Score : 70

Lamb Shank - Well, I have to say I like lamb. And the special sauce applied is just..hmm..how to say..NICE! Again, chips please.
Overall Score : 75

Dessert : This one is the FOC (free of charge) from the Boss. Thanks.
To me, it's a bit sweet. But dessert is suppose to be sweet, right? Maybe I'm not the kind of 'sweety' guy.

RAKUTEI JAPANESE RESTAURANT is located in Crown Square Shopping Centre, Kuching.

Operation Coin Counting

Today, I decided to take out all my coins after 1 year plus saving in a big container.

Took me almost 3hrs to count....RM512.60..wahaha..

Look at my shiny coins.

I am now RM512.60 richer...so going to nearby coffee shop to make changes..sure they'll need it!
Cheers....coins saving starts again.

Jade Pot Tea House - Kuching

One of my favorite dining places in Kuching, Jade Pot Tea House, as they have heaps of food i like.
Not long ago, I've dined in...this time I took some pics to share.
This is the name in Mandarin Chinese.

This is a Pork chop rice in set with a few leaves of veges beside.

Taiwanese sausages - my MUST HAVE dish.

This is another type of Pork chop rice, different recipe from the previous one. This one got egg & marinated cucumber somemore.

Value adding services - do you see "WI-FI Available Here"? And the Grade "A" restaurant standard issued by the local council?

P/S : They have few branches in Kuching. The one in the pictures above is at along Jalan Keretapi, opposite 100% Discount Store. And the other one is somewhere opposite Grand Continental Hotel. I only know 2 of them, whether they have expand to 3rd..4th..I don't know.

Operation UNLOCK & UPGRADE My Huawei E220 3G Modem

Ok, a big project.
Operation to unlock and upgrade the Huawei E220.
If you got a 3G modem directly from MAXIS or CELCOM, you are probably got a LOCKED 3G modem, which means that the particular 3G modem has been locked and to work with only that operator (MAXIS / CELCOM / DIGI / U Mobile). For my case, I've got a MAXIS-Huawei E220 which only works with MAXIS simcard, 3G services only. If you insert a CELCOM or other operators' simcard....it won't work, it is locked!
So, I'm going to unlock it and....then I will have the choice to go for which operator (MAXIS / CELCOM / DIGI / U Mobile) I want....decide later.

So, I am going to UNLOCK it in a DIY way.
First, some reseach on the web....let's google "unlock Huawei E220".
Well, I've got what I'm looking for...so let's start.

Upgrading the firmware will be able the 3G modem to be 7.2Mbps capable, originally is 3.6Mbps. But, the speed is still very much depends on the Service Providers - currently the fastest is only up to 3.6Mbps (at best effort rate)
Who knows, maybe in near future they will upgrade the service to 7.2Mbps....
Now, you see my original Huawei E220 3G modem runs at 3.6Mbps.

And now 7.2Mbps.....just upgraded the firmware to the latest version (in less than 10 minutes).

These are the tools to UNLOCK the 3G modem, alot of programmes and alot of procedures.
You need to be able to find the unlock CODE (serve as a key to unlock) from a table which content full page of numbers & words, then write down the CODE...open another programme and key in the CODE to unlock the unit...like keying in a password.

Done....easy.
Of coz', I have a sifu....I want to thank & acknowledge this person.

Kuching Landmarks : Old & New

Kuching Landmarks - To be gone soon is our good old Pasar Buildings, can be considered as a historical infrastructure where it served the RAKYAT for more than 1/2 century. It will definitely stay in our memory forever.
Across the river with a lot of lights shinning, is our so called PALACE, (Brooke's Palace initially).
The far tall building is our Wisma Bapa Malaysia, where most of the major Sarawak State Agencies are.

Just across the Sarawak River a new oval shape of building under construction, is the new DUN building, which will be Kuching new landmarks.

Kuching - IMPERIAL DUCK

Went to this near newly opened (3 months old) restaurant last weekend.
A very 'Chinese Restaurant' style of a restaurant, which is owned by LOK THIAN group of company - one of the biggest restaurant business players in Kuching.

This is the menu. A lot of BBQ stuff...like BBQ Duck, BBQ Chicken..etc.

All the staff there wearing uniform, looks like Japanese to me..

The BBQ duck which we ordered is really really NICE.

One of the best I've tried, definitely recommending it to all of you.

Sibu Trip - 02

This is the newly built 'Rejang Bridge', which is leading to Kanowit and the inner Sarawak area (Southing).

We drove by a rural area called Durin.
You can find alot of durian trees along the roadsides. If durian is one of your favourite like I do, you can open up your car window and smell the durian!!

There are durians on the tree. Can you see them?

That's it! You've got it.

Well, that ended my Sibu trip.

My New Notebook - DELL

Just received my new toy, DELL Latitude D630.
A very efficient service from DELL.com.my indeed, delivered 1.5 weeks (11days) right after I placed the order online.

So, I was busy copying files from old notebook to the new one, setting up programs & software.
Forgot to mention, I've upgrade the OS from XP to VISTA, my first experience with Window VISTA.

And eventually my first crash with Window VISTA (a black-screen instead of a blue-screen) :-(

Don't judge the food quality by the look...it's really good. ORIGINAL!

A cup of Kopi-O (black coffee) to kick start the day...

Here are the 'Roti Bakar' a.k.a 'Roti Kahwin' - toasted white bread with coconut jam & butter.
These ones are special, the butter also cover the outer part of the bread, normally other places only cover the inner part. That's make this Kopitiam different from others.

An half-boiled egg with soy sauce.

Well....that's all needed for the start of a day....(psss...don't look at those packets far behind...not a healthy stuff)

This particular Kopitiam I've visited is located at Jalan Sekama (Corner lot, opposite Rasa Sayang), Kuching, Sarawak.

Sarawak Blackout 09/08/08

Blackout started 6.30pm til about 10.00pm, after that recovering area by area. And then 10.30pm to 11.00pm again.
Luckily I was not on the road, according to some traffic rangers (my friends who were on the road), traffic jammed everywhere coz' the traffic lights not working, cars were congested in the middle of the junctions, wanted to rush back home.

I was at home lighting my candles & torchlight, with my lappy watching 'Hancock' on battery.

Oh...well, the very next day....they says : "not 100% the whole Sarawak affected lah.."..
i guess got 70% - 80% is very serious already!

But what to do? We only have one power supplier in Sarawak...monopoly is the business called.
No choice.

The Sun light is too strong for me to look into it, it was abit hard for me to focus my camera (handphone actually) to full view of the ring.
Cool...ya.

According to some scientist, The ring around the sun or moon is caused by ice crystals within thin cirrus clouds. The refraction causes light to shine into a ring. Cirrus clouds are generally the first layer of clouds that are seen as a storm system approaches.

The Kuching Friendship Park, is loacted at Jalan Song.

People go there for jogging, exercise & some go 'tai-chi' practice in the early morning and evening. Some couples also choose to go there for 'walk-walk'.

This is one of the favourite spot for those outdoor photo album/marriage capturing.

McD : Ronald McDonald has a TWIN BROTHER

I don't lie...here is the picture proof.
Ronald McDonald has a twin brother, he is Ronaldino McDonald.
Ronaldino has just arrived Kuching reunion with his brother at 3rd Mile Central Park, Kuching.
When interviewing Ronaldino, he said he just came on board joining McD together with his twin brother recently, as he claims that it is very hard to get a job elsewhere (possibly with current economy down turn impact).

The one sitting on the bench is Ronaldino McDonald, and the one welcoming people at the back is Ronald.
How to differentiate between them? Well, Ronald is wearing size 14 shoes and Ronaldino is wearing size 16 shoes, that's the only difference.

According to Wiki, "Ronald McDonald is a clown character used as the primary mascot of the McDonald's fast-food restaurant chain. A friend of mine bought a unit of apartment at MJC Courtyard Sanctuary, Kuching.
I've visited him during last Chinese New Year celebration, and apparently I 'curi-curi' took some pictures of the interior unit for you all lah.

Before showing you what's inside, I want to mention here is that the apartment surrounding area is walled up with security guard house.
So, who ever want go into the compartment area has to go through the security guard first. Of course, it is a very good protection services.
But the management included these cost into the monthly management fees...I presumed.

OK, let's go inside.
Well, what can I say...hmm...maybe...everything is tiny.
1. A tiny living room where u can only put 1 TV, 2 2-seater sofa & and coffee table.
2. A tiny dining room where it is shown in the picture (bottom-right), joining with living room.
3. A tiny kitchen
4. And 3 tiny bedrooms

If I owned a unit there, I would take down all the bedroom walls and convert into a open space studio type apartment.
At least it will look a little bigger in space.

One thing I cannot understand is, we have so many land in Kuching comparing to Singapore, Hong Kong, why the developers want to build apartments?
Is it our land value is higher? Cannot be lah...check check...indeed the land value in Kuching is quite high (within Sarawak state).
In a city area, 1 point of land price at RM12,000 to RM20,000 (depending on surrounding development)
Walao eh...land in Kuching got gold or diamond underneath kah?

After petrol price hike, building material also follows, the inflation comes...then will result higher price for housing.
Aduh....my money kenak water, shrink to smaller note.

Thursday afternoon, a call from boss.

Boss said : "Convinient to talk?"

Something is not right when he talked like that, and I said : "Sure.."

Boss said : "Big boss is going to have a presentation on Monday, get ready all the stuff and pass to me by tomorrow evening."

I was thinking in my mind : "What da hack??!!....Tomorrow?"

I thought he was joking with me and I answered : "But boss, Monday is a Gawai Holiday, are you sure?"

He talked seriously : "Yes, Monday. The other side of the country is not having Gawai, and the Big boss is flying over to meet some VVIP."

OMG....shits come to me, but I try to fight back lah...:"But, the thing only schedule to finish by end of year."

Boss said : " Yeah, I know. See what you can do, give it to me by tomorrow."

Another 'what da hack?', what kind of explanation is that??!! Giving me no way out at all, I just answered : "Well, what to do? I'll do what ever I can, boss."

A Beautiful Kuching

A month ago, I had a 'go-around' Kuching road trip with a few of friends.
We started off at 6.30am ( man...that's early, and yet it was a weekend day! which I supposed to be sleeping in my bed...normally :) )
I had not seriously look at Kuching like this day before. Actually, Kuching have some nice scenes....some of these for your viewing pleasure.

A very busying 2 months indeed

Dear My Fellow Friends & Readers,

I was tremendously busy for the past few months, and foresee the coming 1-2 months will be the same. God bless me. Can you believes that I was so busy that I can only have 2-3 hrs per week for internet?

OK, let's see what I did for the pass 2 months.
1. Working on a nationwide project for my company (this one alone already took up 1+ month)
2. Outstationed for 3 days working on another separate task (Official trip)
3. Preparing self-assessment of Income Tax submission
4. Working on another website (to be launched soon, personal)
5. Freelancing to other business, which the customers stated that all are "urgently required" as always.

Finally, I've got a peaceful & quiet Saturday afternoon sitting down at home updating my blog.
Not finishing yet...I will be outstation again next week for 2-3days.
Stay with me til my next update.

A NIGHT STAY AT HILTON KUCHING

Recently, I got a complimentary stay at Hilton Kuching (I had a complimentary room coupon and a dinner coupon from Hilton).
I didn't use it until the very last day of validation.Haha..

OK, here is how the 'standard room' looks like. Pretty Standard lah...
1. Bedside tables with lamps + notepad (with pen, I took the pen!!!)

At 4pm++, basically I have nothing to do. I took up my camera again & walk around the room.

Finally, 7pm...dinner time! Dined in at STEAK HOUSE Hilton.
Pretty nice & sort of high class environment.
Guess what, on top of my complimentary dinner, they gave more complimentaries.
1. Garlic Bread with butter - complimentary (2)
2. 1 piece of mussel with some sauce
3. Entries - Salad with asparagus & Salmon with keropok
4. Main Course - Chicken Chop & Lamb Rack
5.Desserts - Green Tea Cheese Cake & Lychee puddings.

Most of the things look good with a stay at a 5 star hotel. There is only 1 drawback, which is:-

Mykuching news update.
Browny Bear tried to commit suicide this morning at 7.30am. Browny climbed over the window at the top floor of a building. At 7.45am, the rescue & nego. team came at the scene. Finallly, the mighty nego expert, Whitey Puppy successfully convinced Browny to get back into the building around 8.25am.

At the moment, the officers are in the process of finding out the reason from Browny. Browny is in shock and has been sent for medical care.

Nice environment setup here, direct facing the main road of Jalan Simpang Tiga, Kuching.

I like the coffee Float, it is so thick (coffee taste) and so milky (alot of ice cream float).
And the deep fried chicken chop rice, hmm...something different lah...eatable.

Happy Valley Kuching - One of the best gathering places in Town.
Basically you have the call on the environment, either an air-conditioned or an open air garden place.

Environment setup with many beautiful romantic type of lightings, kinda have little bit of everything.

That's what we have ordered that day.
The prices are in mid range standard, in addition to the environment...I think this is a must-go place!

The Causeway Bay Hong Kong Restaurant @ Crown Square, Kuching.
The restaurant provide all sorts of Hong Kong style dishes. The environment is quite well designed, which i gives an 4/5 point allocation.

Well, a dumpling as a starter, followed by the Tom Yum Bee Hun Soup as the main for spice lovers. If you don't feel like spicy today...try the Hong Kong style fried Bee Hun, recommended.

Of course, I don't wan to miss the dim sum and a cup of milk tea there. Just nice to fill my stomach ....

Further add-on, a frame of Hong Kong night view is hanged on the wall for the customers to imagine that they were in Hong Kong having their meal. And of coz' a TV set, normally it will shows the Hong Kong entertainment programme...but don't know why today only the brand "Pioneer".

People always say: "New toilet smells better...". Sure is, just look at the first opening day for The Spring Shopping Mall...I gave up on going into the mall on the first opening night, packed! Just got chance to stop by and shot some pics.

I came on the second day (10 Jan 2008), still packed. Just look at the traffics at both ways...even the car parking lots across the road also FULL...but luckily i got one lah..

The lucky ones - got the "Bak-Kua" at the front entrance (parking at yellow line).

Some pics shot in the mall...it is definately one of the biggest mall in Kuching.

In Kuching, if you asked people about “REX”, mostly you would get answers like these,

a.) Kuching used to have cinema called “REX”, it was about 20 years ago.

b.) Rex’s Café, the best deep-fried prawn cake in town

I went to the REX Café at the Satok / Palm Road area the other day. Of course, to have some of the best deep-fried prawn cake lah. I think the current Rex Café is the 3^rd place the owner has move to, I can’t remember anymore. But one thing I still can remember is that the very first time I had their prawn cake was 20 years ago!!!….Up until now, still the best. No matter how many times the owner has moved, the customers follow.

Alright, let me introduce you some of their drinks.

Special ABC - Something like Ice-Kacang. But instead of kacang, you get a mixture of fruits such as papaya, sago, pineapple, sea coconut, watermelon & etc.

3 Sour – A very tasty drink which mix sour plum, lime, lemon and salt & sugar into the drink. ( 4 sour drink is also available)

I ordered a Penang Belachan Beehun for myself, I never try a Penang style one before (I believes the stall selling it is also newly just in business, because I didn’t see it the last time I visited there..) Hmmm….good, a little bit different taste from the local Kuching style. But overall, still a nice food.

Lastly (I’ve saved the best for the last), I would like to introduce you the deep-fried prawn cake, the ‘brand’ of the shop! The prawn cake is very crispy and has a very nice taste, no kidding….I like it! If you look closer in the photo, you can see the whole prawn on cake, that’s what I call QUALITY FOOD. Besides prawn cake, others are also available like fish ball, chicken-butt, ‘ubi’ (or Sweet Kumara), Tou-Fu, squid and special fish cake (all in deep-fried mode).

Make yourself to be at Rex Café and taste out the best deep-fried prawn cake & others good food there in Kuching.

JOLLY KITCHEN AT HOCK LEE CENTER

The kitchen food court is HALAL, see the menu board.
Food court looks pretty clean and tidy ( maybe it is bcoz’ it is still brand new..)

The ‘Laksa Sarawak’ was still at an acceptable level, not bad. Secondly, I want to introduce you the ‘Roasted Duck Noodle’, the duck is very nice especially the skin, yummy! The noodle underneath was at average level only lah…

The drinks – oh ya….forgot to mention, I supposed the waiter also forgot about our drinks. Our drinks came 5 minutes AFTER our food!…What happened? I’m suspecting that is bcoz’ the food court is new, so there might be some mis-communication or ‘messy-hand-messy-leg’ causing the delays. Here we go, the Long-Ngan & Lychee drinks.

22 Dec 2007. Just would like to share some pictures taken at Boulevard Kuching this late afternoon.

Today is the first day of opening for Boulevard Kuching shopping center & hypermarket, but I would treat it as ‘semi-soft’ opening lah…because basically only 3 floors (ground, 1^st & 2^nd floors) are ready. The rest are yet to be open, such bowling center, shop lots at 3^rd and etc.

But at least, Kenny Roger Roaster is in business. The hypermarket is also operating, and let me tell you, the things there are cheap…comparing to other supermarkets locally.

The interior design – the 1^st impression giving to me is that, it has some Mid Valley’s feel…quite similar.

One thing I didn’t spot is the Christmas Tree…where is it? Where did they put it..aiyo…sayang lah….I only managed to see the real ‘Bakery House’ presented by FUJISAN Bakery.

Wanna ask for a menu, it is available in paper form as usual. Complaining the wordings are too small…can’t read? Another form is placed on the wall, how’s the wordings now? Can see and start ordering now?

Basically, the menu is designed for you to customize your own pot of Bak Kut Teh. Order what you want into your pot and what you don’t want. Some side dish vegetables are also available. We ordered the Bean Sprout, nothing special…but a very ordinary home cook taste.

The drinks are more to Taiwanese drinks such as milk tea with all types of flavour. We ordered the green apple milk tea & the ordinary milk tea with jelly. Hmmm… good to have specially on the cooling rainy day like that day.

Lao Ya Keng ( 老爺間 )

Lao-Ya-Keng ( 老爺間 ) – is a legendary Chinese food court and at the same time is also a Chinese opera theater. The plays happen in most of the Chinese Festival, such as Moon Cake Fest, Bak-Chang Fest, ‘The Others’ Fest & etc. And the food is of course all year round, men need food everyday…hehehe…

The ‘Cha-Kueh’ (Chinese fried Rice Cake) there is best, only available in sweet flavour (normally Cha-Kueh has two flavour, sweet & salty). Cha-Kueh is a kind of cake made from rice, then cut into small pieces and fried it with ingredients with a big flat-based wok. You need to be early if you like to get them, coz’ normally the business will call it a day in a few hours time of operation. Business too good that the Cha-Kueh finish in hours time.

The ‘Fish Ball Yong Tou-Fu’ there is well known trademark of that food court. Just look that the pic, see how fruitful the bowl is. Worth the money!

Those above two dishes mentioned only available from late morning to early evening. There is another side dish I would like to mention here, i.e. the pork Satay, best of the best. No picture shown here, because when we arrived there at 4.00pm and it has already sold out!!!…no more orders for us. : (

Some thing extra that day, a friend and spotted a collapsing or should I say been terminating building, somewhere near the Old Court House, the location of where the new ‘Merdeka Plaza’ will be. I believes, the old building has already full taken down by now. It is time for us to start hoping for bigger, newer building in near future.

Friend's Birthday - Home Party

Recently, went to a friend's home birthday party.
Here is the Birthday girl, who was still busy preparing the food at 6.30pm~...last minute work! Still posing a "Victory" to the camera...

First session of the evening, buffet style.....here you go, fried rice, which is always a must in the casual home party.

Coming up is the roasted chicken...quite nice.

Then, we have spring-roll. Yeah..eaten, but can't really figure out what's inside...just eat!..hehehe..

Dinner at Akira Japanese Cuisine

It was a raining night, we decided to go somewhere indoor (plaza with carpark lah…to avoid the rain mah.) for dinner. So, we went to a ‘sort of ’ Sushi Bar last Friday night at Sarawak Plaza. Why I say ‘sort of ’? Because the sushi bar is real small and is isolated from the serving bar…like an island with rail at the surroundings.

People there are quite kind & friendly, service good! You know lah, Japanese service is always good, just short of one thing they didn’t do only, else it will be quite equivalent, ie. Bow when you come in and greet you with “shi-li-ma-seh”.

Look at the orders that we had…a lot? Don’t pray-pray man…still less than RM50 we spent, not to mention the RM2 car-parking fee.

Tea Time at Song Kheng Hai Food Court

4.00pm Tea Time at Song Kheng Hai Food Court, on Sunday. One of the best places to have the most localize, nice & cheap food in town. I bet you never seen/heard about these food before if you are not living in Kuching or never been to Kuching before.

The moment when you sit down on a chair at the food court, a very friendly lady will come to you and ask whether you want to order some drink. On a hot Sunday afternoon, I’ve order a fresh coconut water for my thirst. I remember once a Chinese Physician told me that taking a fresh coconut water can reduce the ‘heat gas’ inside your body almost immediately, and avoid sickness due to the ‘heat’. Besides fresh coconut water, you could order sugar cane juice or The Perfect Match of Coconut Water & Sugar Cane Juice. Nice too!

The next thing to do is, to go to the desired stalls and order the food….The ultimate Belachan Bee Hun, never heard before? OK, Belachan is a kind of spice that you can only find in Malaysia or nearby places. Bee Hun is rice noodle but slightly thinner, mostly imported from China. Belachan Bee Hun comes with boiled sotong & sliced cucumber too. Together with the secret soup and sauce, the taste is like ..mmm…WONDERFUL!

A side order of Belachan Bee Hun, RM1.00 of Century Egg, makes the Bee Hun tastier.

The remarkable Sotong-Kangkong, another food that you can’t get it elsewhere. By the name, you get Sotong & Kankong and another secret sauce with some crunched peanuts as toppings for the purpose of some crunchy feels. The absolutely non-fat dish (but a bit high cholesterol lah..)

Lastly, the very traditional & local food….introducing the local salad….ROJAK. You get a mixture of veges. & fruits (things like cucumber, ‘mangkuang’, ‘Tou-fu’, pineapple & etc.) in it with once more…secret sauce & crunched peanut. What I heard about the sauce is that, the sauce is made from prawn. But think-think, cannot relate the sauce to prawn, because the sauce is in black colour…how do they do that?? I don’t want to know :). Just eat it…

Buffet Dinner at Hilton (Kuching)

Earned some extra incomes previously, so I was thinking to treat myself a bit better for Saturday night dinner by going to have buffet dinner at Hilton Hotel (Kuching). RM75++ per pax., I can only afford it once a blue moon. Although quite pricey, but one night of ‘High Class’ feel and well served feel, is still worth it. That’s what I feel lah. The best thing is – it is a buffet, EAT-ALL-U-CAN!

The restaurant is located in the Hilton Hotel Building, one level down from the lobby, mmm…just below the SENSO Bar. I don’t know what is the exact name of that Restaurant, I just know the food…hahaha… OK, it was a Saturday night, the menu was ‘International Varieties’. Meaning that restaurant was providing food from different cultures and countries.

OK, Round ONE of food taking. Seafood set.
Big prawns – one of my favourites, and the prawns are mostly longer than my palm (about 5-6 inches) and are as fat as my thumb, juicy somemore, FRESH! Yum-yum. Mussels – Not that easy to get mussels in Kuching. Mussels remind me my varsity life in New Zealand years ago. New Zealand’s mussels are so cheap and fresh where you can easily get it in supermarkets in NZ. Alright, back to my buffet. The mussels there were very nice though. And some prawn tempura, fish ball & salad veges – just nice to make up into the first dish.

Round TWO, Japanese Set.
Fried Udon noodle with sushi, tuna fish, deep fried salmon fish and BBQ squid shall fill my stomach. Adding a plateful of raw salmon fish shall make it marvelous. Feeling half full already, still looking forward to third round…I am paying a lot…

Round THREE, back to Seafood Set.
More big prawns. More mussels. More..more..more..
Huh~ getting full now. I better reserve some space for those nice looking desserts.

Round FOUR, Desserts.
Look at those nice looking irresistible cakes and puddings. HOHOHO…here I come. Dark chocolate cakes, chocolate cake with nuts…strawberry on top…no time to bother about calories anymore…

Round FIVE, Fruits.
OK, I admit I am very full already. So take some fruits may help digest those good stuff that went inside my mouth. : )

What to say, sometimes treat yourself good is a good thing to do…relax a bit. That shall make your life better.

Such high class hotel buffet, I personally recommending…. if you want to bring your partner to a good night dining out (eg. birthday / anniversary / occasional celebration & etc.) with high profile, somewhere high class, some romantic feel and most important thing is eat a lot of good food with no shy-shy feeling. In fact, your partner will encourage you to have more, trust me!! Nice leh~.

Introducing to you the Kuching Famous – a.k.a. Green Road Kolo Mee. If you mention about ‘Green Road Kolo Mee’, people in Kuching will know which one you refer to. It is located at along the main road of Green Road (opposite SMK Green Road). Alright, I think no need for me to further describe the ‘Famous-ness’ of the Green Road Kolo Mee.

I went to this Green Road Kolo Mee 2 days ago for lunch. I ordered the Kolo Mee with red and a glass of Kopi-O Peng. The weather that day was not very hot, but I feel like drinking Kopi-O Peng is OK for me. By the way, ‘Kopi-O Peng’ is actually mean Iced Black Coffee. I am in deep caffeinated, cannot energize myself without 2 cups/glasses of coffee daily.

Although, abit hard to find a car parking space, but….the Kolo Mee, mmm….good….must eat! Worth the money and time man….you won’t get any of that taste elsewhere.

HUI SIN NITE

The other day, a few of us went to HUI SIN FOODCOURT had our dinner.
Walao eh…such a long time didn’t go there, missed the food & drink there.
The environment is still pack with people, family dinner / friends’ gathering / regular meal time / visiting and etc, you name it…. they got it!
We were having hard time hunting for a place to sit down.

Finally, got a place….quickly go order something…starving man…
When the orders arrived at our table, I took some photos of each order in a speedy manner before the foods are gone! “Kin-Tio man…” (Terrible in Hokkien)… everything finished in less than 15 minutes!!! Just like the 7.5 month punya “The Others” coming out on the first day.

After satisfying our tummies, we chit-chatted for awhile and headed home separately and call it a day…song~ar.

P/S: I’ve also “ta-pao” (takeaway in Hokkien) some SATAY back for supper :)
